Well, we have made it safely back to Clear Lake! It only took us three full days of driving!
Then by the time we got to the Washington and Idaho border we were ready for lunch so instead of getting a quick bite to eat we went to a sit down restaurant and even ordered an appetizer! Ha! Needless to say we didn’t make it all that far the first day.
Northern Idaho was absolutely breathtaking and you better believe I will make my way up there as soon as I’m able! The sunset in Montana was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Montana is referred to as The Big Sky and now I understand why.
With all our meals and gas stops we stopped around 10 PM our first night. Someone in front on me had just hit a dear so I took that as a sign to pull over at the next Walmart and wait until the morning to continue!
Our next day of travel went smoothly. Wyoming was extremely boring but once we got to Colorado the elevation change kept me entertained! Denver was a breeze to get through and we ended up spending the night at the nicest Walmart in Colorado Springs!
Our third day was our longest, coming in with a total of 17 hours! It was a long day but Harry Potter kept us entertained! I normally wouldn’t have pushed myself that hard but I’m presenting at a conference in Dallas this week and had to be home in time for that! Guess we shouldn’t have taken our sweet time that first travel day!
Sophia and Gonzo did so great the whole drive home. I know some think it’s weird how obsessed with my dogs I am but, I could just not stop telling them how proud I was of them on the drive home and even more so throughout the whole trip. They were just the best, so flexiable and always up for adventure. They were easily the best behaved dogs at every park we stayed at. I never once had to put them on a leash and they never once even attempted to wander away. They hiked their hearts out everyday and were such troopers through all the car rides! Spending 8500 miles in the back seat is no easy feat! Prior to the trip starting I was so worried about how they would react and adapt to all the changes and they just handled everything with such ease! I love these two little nomads with my whole heart and can’t wait for our next adventure together. On a side note, it’s always a joke between Taylor and I about which dog likes which of us better. Typically, Gonzo thinks Taylor is the greatest and Sophia is my shadow. Well, I have been telling Taylor for the past two weeks that I had won Gonzo over because he was my little cuddle bug but as soon as we got out of the car and he saw Taylor it was game over. He was just stringing me along this whole trip, Taylor is still his favorite 😑 won’t give me a lick of attention now that he’s back with his dad! Guess the joke was on me all along.
I haven’t yet had time to process how I feel about coming back to reality and all that I have learned on this adventure. I know I’m happy to be back with my favorite person, Taylor, and grateful for the life I am able to live. But that’s all I really know right now.
I will have to write about all the feels once I have had some time to think. For now I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes:
“We weren’t brought into this world to have a mediocre life. We are here to love fully, to pursue our passions, to spread our love, to expierence life, expand our knowledge, enhance our awareness, elevate our consciousness, and make a positive footprint on the hearts of those around us.”
