Chamisa Trail & The Plaza

After several big hikes and days Kayleigh and I took Thursday a little easier.

We took some time relaxing this morning and then we headed out to Hyde Memorial State Park to hike the Chamisa Trail. It’s a 4.5 mile loop in the pines of The Santa Fe National Forest.

There was some incline but it was a pretty easy hike that offered some pretty good views. This forest reminded me a lot of Michigan!

After our hike we finally decided to check out downtown Santa Fe. It was nice, lots of shops for tourists and some pretty buildings. And of course, chili ristras were hanging everywhere. Picked up a pretty awesome gift for my Baby Nelson!! Can’t wait to give it to Tami!

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t quite cooperating so, we ended up turning in pretty early.

When Kayleigh and I got here Carol mentioned how the weather in Santa Fe can change so quickly. She said the token phrase, “just wait 5 minutes.” Insinuating that if you don’t like the weather now, just wait 5 minutes because it will change.

This started a conversation about me being from Michigan and Kayleigh being from Texas and we both grew up hearing and saying this. We laughed because apparently everyone thinks their weather is unpredictable and changes quickly.

Well, we have now decided Carol was actually correct when she told us this. We went from wearing shorts to rain to hail to sun to snow to sun and blue skies all in essentially an hours time! The weather is truly crazy up here in Santa Fe!

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense out of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist.”
